Antique Caucasian Runner

The Caucasus region — spanning what is now Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia — produced some of the most boldly designed rugs of the 19th century. Caucasian runners of this length are uncommon and were typically woven for palatial interiors or wealthy merchant households.
The deep navy field runs the full length of the runner, anchoring a column of large geometric medallions that repeat end to end. Each medallion is individually detailed with floral and angular infill in red, teal, gold, and ivory, and the surrounding field is filled with smaller botanical forms that keep the background from feeling empty. The composition has real presence at this scale — the medallions are large enough to read clearly even across a long hallway.
The ivory border carries a dense floral meander that runs the full perimeter, providing a bright frame that lifts the dark field. The natural dye palette has aged beautifully, with the teal and red tones in particular developing the kind of depth that only comes with genuine age.
At 18 feet, usable antique runners of this quality are genuinely hard to find.
